It all started with a meditation & yoga class on a military base. The class's focus was on gratitude and the concept of utilizing a tool to focus and keep gratitude with oneself throughout the days, weeks and months, a tool to remind patients of the good work they are doing to rehabilitate through their issues, a tool to help with increasing belief in all that is better was needed.
I started to use rocks as that tool and was having my patients focus on meditative techniques to channel this positive energy. The approach took off, and not a month or two later, Major Raelene Amaya came to me with a box full of beautiful rocks, cleaned and ready for use with meditation. The rocks were hand picked and processed by her father, a former Service Member, who wanted to contribute to our work at our clinicIt was at that moment I knew I wanted this outreach to grow.
The Amaya Project is Synergy Center's Outreach Program that focuses on the cultivation of gratitude and healing amongst all populations.
